Crowd Sourced Chapter Summaries

From the syllabus:
Participation will take place in class during review sessions, and to a much greater extent online on OUSociology.  There are a lot of points available-- and you are free to pursue them in the ways that you find most interesting.  The first 75 points of your participation will come from the sum of your contributions to OUSociology.  You do not need to make an exact accounting of these contributions, but in general you should expect that you will need to make a some comments, post some new links, and maybe make a couple major contributions.  Exactly how many of each type of contribution that you make is up to you

We are going to open up the rest of the book to a similar process by starting this weekend with Chapter 2.  Here is how it will work:

  1. Open a link from above in a new TAB
  2. Chose your ONE paragraph to summarize
    1. Limit is one paragraph per student, per chapter.
      1. Some students in class on Friday got a couple extras. 
    2. 3-6 will be available next week.
    3. You get 5 participation points for your GOOD thesis sentence.
      1. Lame sentences will get no points.   
    4. First come, first served.
  3. Find the chapter in the book.
    1. The first column is the order number of the paragraph in the chapter.
    2. The second is page number.  
    3. The third column is the first few words of the paragraph.  "At the beginning"
  4. Write your thesis sentence in a word document, or on paper. 
    1. Revise your thesis until it is good.
  5. What is a good thesis?
    1. An active, clear sentence that. . .
    2. States the most important idea of the paragraph. 
  6. Type your thesis sentence into the purple cell.
  7. Type your OU ID in the Orange cell, and your name in the red one.  
    1. You are done
  8. Be careful not to accidentally alter anyone else's info.
    1. Also, don't claim someone else's entry as your own, and don't overwrite an existing entry. 
    2. Ganking someone else's entry will be treated as plagiarism.  
    3. If I have to dig into the the edit logs to clear it up I will be belligerent.
